Airbnb started as a competitor, providing rooms and homes that compete with hotels. However, in the last year they have evolved into a distribution channel, much like an OTA, but with much lower commissions.
Airbnb has modified their platform and welcomed hotels - specifically boutique hotels that offer a localized experience and personal touches. For many of you, this can be an excellent new channel with new volume and better Net rates. Many consumers only use Airbnb for lodging, so this is a chance to compete with rental homes on their own turf in a channel with few chains, if any.
